Billions around the world are mourning the loss of former South African President Nelson Mandela, "a man who took history in his hands and bent the arc of the world towards justice," as President Barack Obama said Thursday.

The sports world joined in remembering him, including some Green Bay Packers players on Twitter.

Mandela's effect on the world even reached the world of sports.

He helped bridge the gap between black and white South Africans in 1995 with the 1995 World Cup Rugby tournament, held in his native land.  A more-united nation stood behind the team which won the event.
