Remember that $800,000 home in Texas that had been evacuated because it was teetering on the edge of a quickly eroding cliff? On Friday, that home was burned to the ground in a fire set deliberately at around noon to reduce the cleanup efforts and the amount of debris that would fall into Lake Whitney just below the damaged structure.

Check out photos of the fire, which is still burning, here. Onlookers gathered in front of the home and in boats on the lake below it to watch it burn.
According to CBS Dallas-Fort Worth, “The chalk-like rock underneath the home started eroding away last year, eating into the property along Overlook Court. Authorities first learned about the situation in February. The home’s owners — Robert and Jenyce Webb — are from Florida and moved out two weeks before the ground started to collapse. They only used the home part-time.”
The luxury home was just seven years old.
Firefighters used flares and gasoline to set the house ablaze after punching holes in the walls.
“The Hill County Sheriff’s Office stated that this was the only house in jeopardy at this time. However, the Army Corp of Engineers are keeping a close eye on other nearby properties along the north shore of the lake,” repots CBS-DFW.
