It can be hard for older or disabled dogs to get adopted, but a deaf dog in Nebraska now has a new home thanks to the hard work of a volunteer.
Rosie is a three-year-old pit bull, and when she came into the Nebraska Humane Society shelter in Aurora, she immediately captured the hearts of the workers there.
Volunteer Tracie Pfeifle began teaching Rosie sign language for basic commands like sit, down, stay, outside and walk.
Pfeifle says that is was "just amazing to watch her just blossom into a dog. I don't think she knew how to be a dog," reports KHON Channel 2 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
After that, it was a waiting game to find Rosie the perfect home.
Pretty soon, Cindy Koch, who is also deaf, came along.
Koch says she always wanted a deaf dog and that she and her family hope to teach Rosie more sign language.
