OSHY Swim Team Supports "Life is Beautiful" Campaign

Oshkosh, WI -- They're a force to be reckoned with in the pool, but the OSHY swim team also excels out of the water.

"We've always tried to be about something more than just swimming," said coach Jay Coleman.
"OSHY is all about helping people and we're always there for each other," said swimmer Cassie Laibly.
So when they heard about former teammate Madison Levesque's "Life is Beautiful" campaign, they jumped in to help.
"This project is something that you can't do alone," explains Levesque.
While volunteering at the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry, the 17-year-old Lourdes Academy senior noticed a need.
"A family is allowed to go only once a month and they're only allowed one hygiene product, so I thought that was crazy, so I came up with this bundle."
The bundle consists of shampoo, conditioner, a washcloth and comb. At a recent meet, the OSHY swim team worked to collect donations and help Madison assemble the hygiene bundles.
"I think it's just awesome that we get to help people out and help families that are having trouble. I mean that's just kind of how Maddie is," said swimmer Mattea Arndt.
"One of our huge mottos is 'stronger together,' and I think doing things like this, like helping out with that, really emphasizes that motto," said swimmer Ashley Wilson.
The team's effort will help Madison get closer to reaching her goal of 2,000 bundles, that's how many families rely on the food pantry each month.
Levesque says, "I think it'll make them happy, because it's one less thing they have to worry about. They don't have to worry about that they're clean."
"But it also sets the example for the kids on the team and hopefully this is something that they will see as a part of their life moving forward," added coach Coleman.

They're teen athletes who are going the distance to make a difference in their community.

If you'd like to support the "Life is Beautiful" campaign, you can drop off hygiene items or monetary donations at Lourdes Academy at 250 N. Sawyer St. in Oshkosh.
