WITTENBERG, Wis. -- A 28 year old Gillet man is in custody tonight after a hostage situation at a gas station in Wittenberg.
Deputies say this was a random act driven by depression entering the gas station and taking one man hostage. A terrifying ordeal for those involved.
Roxanne Nitecki coming face to face with a gunman watching as he shows a handgun, but apparently not looking to harm anyone.
"That's when i asked him if he was here to rob us and he said no i don't want your money, I'm just waiting for the police," says Nitecki.
When deputies arrive just after two this afternoon the suspect allows all but one McDonald's employee to leave. Police and the SWAT team set up a perimeter around the scene. Two hours later finally getting him to surrender with nobody injured.
"Try to get a rapport with the person and i believe that's what happened. Our negotiator was able to get a rapport and get his confidence," says Sheriff Randy Wright.
All neighbors including a local school were asked to remain inside during the stand-off.
