Remembering Amanda Sutrick

GREEN BAY, WI-- A community comes together Saturday night, remembering the life of a Bay Port High School teacher who passed away this week.

Amanda Sutrick, 34, died from complications following childbirth. Her family and students, held a candlelight vigil in her honor.

Candles light the area outside Bay Port High School this weekend.

Student Jordan Christensen remembers his teacher as "A bright shining star, always willing to help people, and make people's days brighter."

Nearly 100 people turned out, including her husband, Nathan Sutrick.

"We absolutely needed to be here tonight because we knew Amanda would be here as well," he said.

It's the students who organized the vigil, and set up a memorial page to gather donations for the family.

"I think it's absolutely amazing what these kids have done. They were truly inspiration for Amanda. She talked about them so much, she loved all of them," added Sutrick.

Current and former students, including Breanna Siolka, sharing stories, "She could always make you happy, you could talk to her about anything," said Siolka.

Students also leaving memories on their teacher's door.

"I think she'd be very proud, and have a big smile on her face like she did every day," Christenson added.

Amanda Sutrick died from complications following childbirth.

Her husband and two sons are trying to stay strong.

Nathan says he hopes the students take life lessons from his wife, who was dedicated to teaching, and her family.

"She always said to follow your dreams, live everyday like it's your last, and we will continue to learn from Amanda," said Nathan.
