ONEIDA, WI- Police say a man is in custody after a fatal shooting in Oneida. Authorities responded to a report of gunshots at around 2 a.m. Saturday morning outside of Benderz Bar on W. Service Road.
When police arrived at the scene they found a 24 year old who had been shot. He was then taken to St. Vincent's Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
UPDATE-- The 24-year-old victim has been identified as Kamewan Salzman of Oneida. 18-year old Alejandro Silva was arrested on first degree homicide charges. He is being held in the Outagamie County Jail.
The death remains under investigation and police won't say how the two knew each other or if there was some type of altercation before the shooting.
Both neighbors and police describe Benderz Bar as a quiet, typical neighborhood bar where fights and distrurbances rarely happen.
This is the first homicide in several years in Oneida, according to Police Chief Richard Van Boxtel. Van Boxtel says the community is not in any danger.
The Oneida Police and the Outagamie County Sheriff's Department continue to investigate the incident. They are looking for any other witnesses who were at the bar early Saturday morning to come forward with any information that might be related to the crime.
