Developers With Hotel Northland Putting Project on Hold

GREEN BAY, WI- A big redevelopment project in downtown Green Bay put on hold. Developers with Hotel Northland say a new proposal to rebuild the Clarion Hotel just two blocks away may not be good for their business.

The new proposal is a 16 story hotel project with 200 rooms in place of the Clarion Hotel.

"We just want to make certain that we're doing our due diligence and that we're analyzing the marketplace properly," says Mike Frantz with Frantz-Hobart Community Investors.
Frantz worried there may be too many premium rooms available. The two would make 360 rooms total.
"Some concern as to whether there is really going to be that absorption in the community in Green Bay for the same type of product," says Frantz.
"I think the Northland is filling that niche right now, but it's not to say this Edgewater can't compliment that," says Mayor Jim Schmitt.
A Michigan Developer  will make a presentation Monday on its plan for the Clarion Hotel. City leaders say they hope to make a decision on the development by the end of the month.
