Three Year Anniversary of Smoke-Free Law

By NBC26 Staff. CREATED Jul 5, 2013

GREEN BAY, WI- Three-years ago tonight cigarettes were snuffed-out in all restaurants bars and businesses in our state. The smoke-free air law was highly controversial when it went into effect. many feared it would hurt revenue others argued it would help patron's health.

Bar and restaurant owners had some initial concerns about bringing in customers when the law passed, but three years later, no complaints.

A recent report from the Wisconsin Restaurant Association tells the story. Sales receipts increased nearly 4 percent from 2011 to 2012.

"It definitely creates a nicer atmosphere," says Adam St. Pub Owner Beau Gille.

"Our prices are geared towards that. It worked out really well," says Titletown Brewery Manager Mike Oldenburg."

Titletown Brewery even implemented a smoke free area 2 years before the ban as 90 percent of their guests are non-smokers.
