CHICAGO - The Green Bay Packers' archrival, the Chicago Bears, have let go of coach Lovie Smith after nine seasons.

One of the first reports Monday came from ESPN's Adam Schefter, saying that the team has sent out permission requests for interviews for coaching candidates.

Then, the Chicago Tribune added their report that Smith was let go.

The Bears failed to make the playoffs for the second straight year after falling to the Packers in the 2010 NFC Championship Game.

Chicago made the Super Bowl after the 2006 season.

The coach who made it his first mission to defeat the Green Bay Packers failed to do so in his team's final six meetings with their archrivals.

The Packers were 11-8 against Smith-coached Bears teams, including the 2010 NFC Title Game win.
