GREEN BAY--The hunt isn't just about the game! While the men are hunting down the deer their wives are out hunting for a bargain. This weekend is unofficially dubbed "Widows Weekend".
Women all over Wisconsin are taking advantage of some early holiday shopping deals. With Widows Weekend and Black Friday just days apart this year, ladies we spoke with say they're excited to get a head start on their holiday shopping, before the big crowds hit.
It was a packed mall this weekend in Green bay, bustling with women spending the big bucks, while their husbands are out hunting bucks.
"Just shop shop shop! said Lori Lemay, from Menominee.
For Lori lemay and her friend Debbie Kabacinski, getting together on widows weekend is a tradition.
" We decided to stay overnight at the hotel and shop till we dropped and hope our husbands get a deer" said Lemay.
"We go out, have dinner, we have lunch,we have drinks, we shop" said Kabacinski.
They're taking advantage of the early sales many stores are offering, pre Black Friday. But without the Black Friday madness.
"There were a lot of women this weekend but Black Friday is crazy. Much too early for me," said Kabacinski.
And they're not the only ones with that idea. Mall management says the deer hunt coming so close to Black Friday is drawing bigger crowds.
"We've seen this weekend always be busy but we feel that it is a little bit busier this weekend" said director of marketing for Bay Park Square Mall, Stephanie Blavat.
It's a win-win scenario for couples this weekend.
"He's having fun I'm having fun," said Lemay.
And a welcome boost in business for local retailers, as they kick off the holiday season.
