Race car driver Tony Stewart is headed back to the track this weekend.

According to USA Today, the three-time Spring Cup Series champion will race this Sunday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Stewart sat out three races after the death of Kevin Ward Jr. on Aug. 9 at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York. Stewart's car hit Ward after the young driver left his car to confront Stewart. Ward was upset because Stewart's car had hit his on the previous lap and caused it to crash into a wall.

So far, no charges have been filed against Steward. The sheriff for Ontario County in New York said on Thursday morning that the investigation into the incident was still underway.

Stewart was given all the necessary clearances to return to racing, according to NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer Steve O'Donnell.

According to ESPN, the only comment that Stewart has made about Ward's death was the day after when he said "there aren't words to describe the sadness I feel about the accident that took the life of Kevin Ward Jr."

Stewart reportedly went into hiding after the crash and was very upset, according to various sources.
