Despite several mishaps during Friday's rehearsals, MTV's 2014 Video Music Awards went off without a major hitch at revamped venue the Forum in Inglewood, California, near Los Angeles.
Here's our top three show highlights and/or "Oh no!" moments:
1. Pop star Katy Perry and rapper RiFF RAFF revived an iconic matching jean ensemble on the red carpet that then-couple Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears wore to the 2001 American Music Awards.
2. "Anaconda" singer Nicki Minaj ditched her boa constrictors to avoid another attack like the one that happened at rehearsals, however, her skin-tight dress did pop during a "Bang Bang" collaboration with fellow female artists Jessie J and Ariana Grande. This wardrobe malfunction left Minaj clutching her chest for the rest of the performance.
3. Ditching her twerking from last year's show, Miley Cyrus won Video of the Year and, surprisingly, accepted it with poise. Cyrus enlisted the help of a young man named Jesse to accept her Moonman trophy on her bahalf and give a speech about bringing a serious awareness to youth homelessness in Los Angeles.
Additional show highlights included Beyonce winning the esteemed Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and Taylor Swift making her "pop" music debut with new single "Shake It Off." Swift also made a funny joke about snakes (per Minaj's "Anaconda" rehearsal incident).
