Travs Take Series Finale At Hammons Field

The Arkansas Travelers completed a four-game sweep of the Springfield Cardinals with a 5-0 victory on Sunday.

The Arkansas Travelers wrapped up the series on a winning note with a 5-0 victory against the Springfield Cardinals before 5,533 fans at Hammons Field on Sunday evening.
In his Hammons Field debut, Cardinals LHP Jimmy Reed (L, 1-1) got off to a great start, dealing 3.1 perfect frames to begin just his second Double-A outing. After retiring the first 10 in a row, the Travelers (25-18, 59-54) broke through in the top of the fourth inning. Reed started the stanza with a strikeout, but 2B Alex Yarbrough broke up the perfect game with a double. DH Brian Hernandez followed with a single, before an RBI single by RF Mike Bianucci. One out later, C Jett Bandy drove a three-run home run to left field, opening a 4-0 advantage.
Arkansas tacked on one more in the top of the fifth inning. After Reed started the frame with a fly out, SS Eric Stamets and LF Maikol Gonzalez knocked consecutive singles. 2B Alex Yarbrough then brought in Stamets with an RBI single of his own, making it 5-0.
Meanwhile, Travelers LHP Tyler DeLoach (W, 1-0) kept the Cardinals (17-26, 51-62) bats at bay through his five-inning Double-A debut. DeLoach scattered two hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Both sides then received scoreless relief through the final four innings. LHP Ryan Sherriff tossed two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh for the Cards, before RHP Jeremy Berg took care of the eighth and RHP Joey Donofrio blanked the Travs in the ninth.
However, Arkansas countered with two scoreless innings from RHP Kevin Johnson, before two final scoreless frames from RHP Jairo Diaz to close the 5-0 win for the Travelers.
