Stone County Hopes Fight Over Tax Breaks Doesn't Cost County Money

Stone County Presiding Commissioner Dennis Wood says taxpayers are caught in the middle of a fight over tax breaks.
At issue are some last minute tax cut bills that Governor Nixon vetoed because they could prevent local governments from collecting local sales tax revenue.
Now, lawmakers want to override those vetoes.
Wood says if that happens, Stone County could lose out on $800,000-dollars in sales tax revenue every year.
Wood says the way Department of Revenue interprets the tax breaks, local governments wouldn't be able to collect some money even though taxpayers agreed to it.
That means if lawmakers are successful, Stone County might not be able to collect taxes on places like Silver Dollar City -- its largest employer and biggest source of local revenue.
