Springfield Neighborhood Bands Together To Fight Crime
Despite the bad weather, more than two dozen people attended a police training session in Springfield to learn how to prevent crime in the Southern Hills neighborhood.
Organizer Cathy Fredrick says she has a personal stake in making the area safer.
"We were broken into in September. We were out of town, but my oldest son was home. He walked in on them actually in our house," says Fredrick.
Springfield Police Lieutenant Kirk Manlove says neighborhood watch groups can go a long way toward crime prevention.
"Organization is really important, and presenting pride of ownership in the neighborhood, as well as some good lighting," says Manlove.
City Utilities has been contacted about adding street lights in the area.
