Springfield City Utilities Prepares New Water Tower For Operation
Springfield City Utilities is filling the first elevated water tower since 1972 today.
The tower will service water to south Springfield and act as an emergency tank in case of a major fire.
The project designer Kem Reed says it will be ready for service in about a week after crews sanitize the 128 foot tower.
City Utilities says it's the first tower with a logo.
The water tower is essentially maintenance free for up to 25 years because of its concrete pedestal.
