Ozark Fire Department Can't Offer Benefits To Same-Sex Couple

An attorney for the Ozark Fire Protection District says the department doesn't have the authority to extend benefits to employees in same-sex marriages.
Fire Captain Andi Mooneyham wanted the board to recognize same-sex partners so her wife could be covered under her health insurance.
The fire district's attorney says they couldn't make that change because the state constitution doesn't allow the board to redefine the word "spouse."
The issue is expected to be discussed at a meeting on Tuesday.
