Tuesday marks one year since a young girl, who was on the verge of becoming a teenager, was abducted from a park in Golden City.
Adriaunna Horton, 12, and her friends had just finished their first day of sixth grade and were celebrating the new school year at Hazel Park on August 19, 2013.
Police said Bobby Bourne Jr., 35, was also at the park and had asked Adriaunna to help him find his daughter. She got into Bourne's SUV around 5:30 p.m. and that would be the last time she would be seen alive. Ninety minutes later, police stopped and arrested Bourne, but there were no signs of Adriaunna. Just days later, on August 21, her body was found in a wooded area southeast of Golden City.
Bourne, who was a former employee of Adriaunna's dad, has been charged with kidnapping, rape, and murder. He is scheduled to go on trial on Sept. 21, 2015 in Barton County.
Bourne’s criminal record shows a history of violent behavior. He was on probation after an assault conviction in Cedar County in 2012. Bourne also pleaded guilty to two counts of domestic assault in May 2013.
