Springfield Lawmaker Reacts To Governor's Veto

By Mike Morgan. CREATED Jun 25, 2013

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -Governor Jay Nixon has vetoed legislation that would have required public employees to give annual written consent before union dues could be deducted from paychecks. Nixon says the bill would place unnecessary burdens on public employees.

State Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Springfield, released the following statement in reaction to the governor’s veto of SB 29:
“Governor Nixon’s veto of SB 29 is a blow to the freedom of all the hardworking public employees in our State. The governor had an opportunity to do the right thing for Missouri workers by protecting them from being forced to fund political activities they do not support. Instead, he denied workers the right to determine how their union dues will be utilized. This decision makes it clear that he cares more about keeping his campaign coffers filled with union money than he does about worker freedom.”
