From A Press Release
The Western Taney County Fire District responded to a Semi Truck Rollover Crash on Highway 248 approximately 1/2 mile from the Stone Taney County Line this afternoon.
When firefighters arrived, the truck was broken into several pieces with a dry bulk tank carrying Ammonium Nitrate on it's side and the truck pulling the trailer on it's roof in the roadway.
The driver was able to get out of the truck on his own and was treated for minor injuries by firefighters and Taney County Ambulance personnel.
The driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further evaluation. The material in the trailer was Ammonium Nitrate which is an oxidizer and is commonly used as a fertilizer in the agricultural industry.
This material can also be used as an explosive but only when mixed with other materials and even then must be used a certain way to act as an explosive. During the accident, the tank trailer had one lid on the top of the trailer open and spilled a small amount of the material. Representatives for the truck and the company that owned the material were coordinating with the Missouri State Highway Patrol to arrange to unload the remaining material and to clean up the spilled material on the ground.
