Mock Crash In Reeds Spring Highlights Dangers Of Drunk Driving

High School students in Reeds Spring got a sobering look at the dangers of drunk driving on Friday.
Southern Stone County Fire crews helped Mercy Injury Prevention Center set up a 'mock crash' scene: complete with shattered glass, crumpled cars, and teenagers covered in fake blood.
Organizers say the goal was to make it look as realistic as possible to highlight what can happen when those who drink get behind the wheel.
This letter was sent to students' families ahead of the Mock Accident:
In order to bring awareness to the importance of driving responsibly, we have partnered with staff of Mercy Injury Prevention Center to conduct a mock accident that will be held this coming Friday afternoon on the campus of Reeds Spring High School.
Within the next few days a couple of wrecked vehicles will be staged near the entrance to the school that will be used for the mock accident Friday afternoon. Members of the local police department, Sheriffs office, highway patrol, ambulance service, Coroner and area fire departments along with staff of Mercy Injury Prevention Center will be assisting with the mock accident.
This event is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm and will be completed before the end of the day. As the intent is to make this event as realistic as possible our mock accident does have simulated fatalities in the recreation of the accident. Counselors will be available for any student that might need assistance throughout and following the event. Following the mock accident an informational assembly on driving responsibly will be shared with the student body.
If anyone has any questions regarding the mock accident please contact the HS office.
