In a unanimous decision, the Nixa Public Schools Board of Education extended the contract for Dr. Stephen Kleinsmith, superintendent of schools, through the 2015-2016 school year following their annual evaluation of the superintendent. The evaluation process reviews six categories of Educational Leadership, Business, Finance, Strategic Planning, Board, and Community Relationships.
Glenn Scott, board secretary, stated, “We have the best superintendent in the state and the district’s track record of success speaks to that. We have received local, state, and national awards and consistently have high academic success both locally and statewide. He could not work better with the staff or the board, and he represents the district well everywhere he goes. The results of his work speak for themselves.”
Under Dr. Kleinsmith's leadership, Nixa has earned its 11th consecutive “Accreditation with Distinction in Performance” award from the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education and has a low dropout rate of 1.3% (the state rate is 3.2%) while spending $2000 less than the state average per student.
Dr. Kleinsmith also believes that students are not learning if they are not in school, and the district’s attendance rate of 96% demonstrates his effort to have all students in school so they can achieve their best academic successes.
Dr. Kleinsmith will begin his 14th year in the district in August and has taken our schools to a higher level under his dedicated leadership.
Mike Copeland, board member, stated, “Dr. Kleinsmith is a team-focused leader, and I feel this is why we are one of the top-ranked districts in the state. He finds great people to surround himself with at all levels of the school district and uses teamwork to accomplish the great things that happen in Nixa.”
After the evaluation, the Board of Education offered Dr.Kleinsmith a 4% salary increase.
Kari, Dr. Kleinsmith’s wife, serves as a guidance counselor at Nixa High School. They have two son’s, Elijah (a sophomore at MSU) and Jacob (a junior high student in Nixa).
