Sept. marks National Ovarian and Gynecologic Cancer Awareness
Take the opportunity to set up a well-woman exam in dedication of National Ovarian and Gynecologic Cancer Awareness month.
Studies show over 20,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year in the U.S. Over 10,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year and around 4,000 die from the disease.
There is no age limit for when cervical cancer could strike making it imperative for women to obtain health screenings.
National medical guidelines do suggest initial Pap test by age 21.
Preventive health measure for cervical cancer are available and if treated properly, results in a 100 percent survival rate.
During Sept. Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains offers cervical screening programs in Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Wyoming.
