13 Things To Do This Week In Downtown Las Vegas

Here is a list of 13 Things To Do This Week In Downtown Las Vegas for Aug. 28-Sept. 4:

1. Broadway's newest smash hit "Kinky Boots" kicks off its much-anticipated national tour at The Smith Center on Sept. 4. The musical brings together four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein and Grammy Award-winning rock icon Cyndi Lauper. "Kinky Boots" plays to standing-room-only crowds nightly at the Hirschfeld Theatre on Broadway. Performances continue through Sept. 14 in Reynolds Hall.

2. The Las Vegas Strip isn't the only place to see hot guys in Vegas. "Men of the Strip," a male revue, is taking the stage at The D Las Vegas for a limited engagement Aug. 28 through 31. The show is described as a high-energy and wild experience designed with the desires of contemporary women in mind. Produced by 98 Degrees founding member and Grammy nominee Jeff Timmons. 

3. The Rock of Vegas Summer Concert Series will feature Fuel, Drowning Pool, Royal Bliss and Local H at the Fremont Street Experience Aug. 30. The concert is free and starts at 9 p.m.

4. Labor Day fun in downtown Las Vegas includes the 2nd annual Bikini Beer Festival on Aug. 30 at Downtown Grand's rooftop pool venue PICNIC. Nearly 500 guests are expected for an evening of swimsuits, music and beer.

5. Matilda (a puppet) and Patrick (the man with his hand up her back) are now starring in an afternoon show titled "Ja-Making'-Me-Laugh," featuring witty island comedy and masterful ventriloquism at The D Las Vegas. The show is described as Las Vegas' only matinee for adults.

6. If you would like to learn more about the history of the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park on East Washington Avenue, now is the perfect time. The Old Fort History Tour will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 30. All ages welcome.

7. Bingo & Beers takes place the first Wednesday of every month at Banger Brewing at Neonopolis. Bingo & Beers features 9 games of bingo with your chance to win free beer and a grand prize of a five-gallon keg of beer. Bingo & Beers starts at 5 p.m. Banger Brewing also offers two-for-one growler fills every Tuesday and randalizes their beer every Friday.

8. Fear The Red Planit Tour with Tha Native, Mr. P Chill, Rez Loyal with special guest, Hassan, Be One and Charlie Madness stops at the Hard Hat Lounge on Industrial Road on Aug. 31. Eclipse The Eye and Yosemite Slam perform Aug. 29.

9. More than 200 cars will be featured during Severed Ties Car Club's Last Call V Car Show from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 30 at Dowtown 3rd. In addition to bagged trucks, hot rods, classic cars and trucks and bikes, there will be vendors and food and drink. Vehicle check in is from 9 to 11 a.m.

10. The September Downtown Lowdown will take place Sept. 2 at The Learning Village. The fun starts at 4:15 p.m. with food, drink, games and more. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. The Downtown Project Lowdown is a great event to learn about the various projects and upcoming events in the community. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite team jerseys this month.

11. Country star and Grammy Award-winner Travis Tritt is playing for one-night only Sept 4 at the Container Park in downtown Las Vegas. Local musician Beau Hodges, who is known for his outlaw country/Southern rock sound, will open for Tritt. NOTE: THE SHOW HAS BEEN CANCELED. BEAU HODGES WILL PLAY AT THE BUNKHOUSE AT 9 P.M. INSTEAD.

12. Matt and Mattingly's Bucket Show takes place every Wednesday inside the Ogden's Scullery Theater. Helped tremendously by Spadoni on the keys and the suggestions and participation of the audience, Matt and Paul zip through all kinds of games, scenes and music. Free admission. Show starts at 10 p.m.

13. The Entrance Band, Same Sex Mary and Beta Bomb perform at the newly-renovated Bunkhouse Saloon on Sept. 3. The Entrance Band's music has been described as psychedelic rock or stoner rock. Same Sex Mary consists of a girl from Bulgeria, a barefoot guitarist, a drummer with a mermaid tattoo and a bassist from an enchanted land. Beta Bomb is a garage rock band from Las Vegas.
