Mountain Ridge Little League headed for greatness

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Mountain Ridge All Stars are once again the state champions. They are headed to California now hoping to earn a spot to the Little League World Series.

The 14 boys, all 12-years-old, have dreams of playing in the Little League World Series. Player Justin Hausner said, "We have the team to do it. If we work hard, play hard, we're gonna win this thing."

For the second year in a row, this team has won state. But last year, they were too young to advance in the tournament.

This year, they're headed to San Bernadino hoping to become the Western Regional Champions. It's never happened to a Nevada team.

Player Dominic Clayton said, "It's going to be like a crazy opportunity to see all the fans. Thousands of people. It's going to be great."

Player Bradley Stone said there is no star on the team, "We don't consider anybody a star. You're only as good as your weakest link."

Their motto? Always earned. Never given.

They have eight strong pitchers and players who can handle multiple positions. They are ready to represent but need our community's help to get there. Since the city's usage fees for fields went up, money that would've been spent on travel has been spent on fields and electricity.

Coach Roland Watkins said, "It's a huge financial burden on families. We traveled to Northern Nevada for the state tournament. Now we are traveling to San Bernadino. If we do well, and we think we have a good shot, there is another travel expense going to the World Series. The more help we can get from the community, the better."

They've set up a gofundme account and are hoping locals will see the value in this little league experience with big time impact.

Coach Ashton Cave said, "There is more than baseball.  We teach them they can be good leaders, husbands, fathers, and the people we know they can be."
