Beacon Academy offers alternative to traditional high school

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Our students will be back to school on Monday. Getting ready is a challenge for teen parents.

But Beacon Academy can help. Student Sami Grund said, "I love it honestly. I get to do school whenever I want to and still be with my son full time. So I get to better myself and still be a mom."

Sami is a mother of 18-month-old Micah. She chose Beacon when she realized traditional school wouldn't work any more.

Principal Tambre Tondryk said that's the case for many students, even if they aren't parents. "In a traditional school students are expected to be on the same pace with 40 other students every day. The reality is kids learn at their own pace and we need to have options."

Beacon offers both online classes and a brick and mortar building for students who need to come in and meet face to face.

Teens can enroll for another month, so keep in mind your teen has options if they start the school year at their high school and then realize Beacon might be a better fit.
