Olivia Newton-John arrives on Las Vegas Strip for new residency

The Las Vegas Strip welcomed its newest headliner in true Las Vegas fashion on Wednesday.

Olivia Newton-John will begin her new show at the Flamingo Las Vegas next month. She said her show, Summer Nights, will be a musical journey throughout her career.

"It'll have a bit of everything plus some oldies from when I started and standards that I love, from my nightclub days," said Newton-John.

She arrived in Las Vegas riding the same car as her iconic character Sandy from "Grease," and was driven down The LINQ where she was greeted by hundreds of cheering fans.

Newton-John received a key to the Las Vegas Strip, as April 2 was proclaimed Olivia-Newton John Day.

"I have traveled so much in my career and being all over the world and being on planes and buses and trains and cars for so long that the idea of a residency was actually really nice to be in one place and one bed. I actually unpacked my bag and I thought, 'I have never done this,'" she said.

Plans to bring the star to Las Vegas have been in the works for years, but she was forced to put everything on hold as she dealt with some devastating personal news.

"The show got put on hold because I lost my sister, whose jacket I'm wearing today, because I said I would bring her to Vegas and I have a little piece of her here with me."

It was her sister's wish to see her perform on the Las Vegas stage, which ultimately made the Flamingo residency a reality.

Newton-John's residency consists of 45 performances.

Summer Nights will debut on April 8. Tickets are already on sale.
