Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- United Blood Services currently has an urgent need for O-type blood.
Although only six percent of the population has O-negative blood, all people of all blood types can safely receive it.
This blood type is also used for treatment of babies, O-type blood is needed daily by neonatal facilities across the valley.
In addition, UBS also needs O-positive blood is the most prevalent blood type. 37 percent of the population has it, so it is needed in greater quantities.
UBS currently provides blood and blood products to local area hospitals in Southern Nevada, California and Northern Arizona.
In addition to the low inventory, UBS is expecting donations to slow down because people are more focused on back-to-school and the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
