"Good Morning America's" Sam Champion will sign off Wednesday as he prepares to start his new job at the Weather Channel, NY Daily News reports.
The GMA meteorologist has been there for six years and is leaving to become an important figure for the Weather Channel as their managing editor. Along with his new role, he'll also host a morning show. Since the channel is also owned by NBC, he might pop up in other NBC programs.
Champion helped the GMA team increase ratings in the past two years to beat the "Today" show for this first time in decades.
"There's no replacing Sam," said ABC News president Ben Sherwood in a note to staff on Monday. "While he is leaving ABC News, he will always be part of our family."
