Dodge Durango sales up 60% thanks to Ron Burgundy

Ron Burgundy is selling Dodge Durangos like nobody's business

With the sequel to Will Ferrell's "Anchorman" set to release on Dec. 20, Ferrell and Dodge formed an unlikely and very mutually beneficial relationship airing commercials with Burgundy as the new spokesperson for Dodge Durangos. Apparently this is some sort of magical combination because sales for the Durango alone in October increased by 59 percent Business Insider reports.

The spots started running at the beginning of October and besides the success of the SUV, overall sales for Chrysler are also up 11 percent.

Will Ferrell's website, Funny or Die, is responsible for the ads and the Director, Jake Szymanski, joked that it's mainly their employees who are buying the cars. But it was Chris Bruss, also of Funny or Die, that may have hit the nail on the head with what makes the commercials so successful.

"[Ron Burgundy's] somebody who, if you’re fast forwarding on your DVR, you’re probably going to stop and take a look at him no matter what,” Bruss tells Entertainment Weekly.

Show of hands: who also wants to get a Dodge Durango now? It's obviously the new "it" car....
