Fashion critic Cathy Horyn penned a remembrance for close friend, fashion designer L'Wren Scott, for The New York Times, yet also revealed breaking news that Scott herself was planning on announcing this week. Unfortunately, the breaking news that we did receive about Scott was that of a different kind after she committed suicide in her home on Monday.
"I learned since her death that she was planning to close her business, with an announcement on Wednesday [March 19]," pens Horyn. "Still, as painful as the decision must have been for her, I wouldn’t draw any conclusions from it about her state of mind. Nor should any credence be given to reports of a breakup with [longtime boyfriend] Mick [Jagger]. It’s rubbish."
Described as "beguiling to her friends" Horyn says that "despite her Amazonian height and courtesan-like glamour, L’Wren could rapidly close the distance to another human being" and "was made of softer clay."
"She had an incredible work ethic -- and there was no job she wasn’t willing to do herself," further pens Horyn, "which became a problem as her company got bigger."
CNN Money reports that "annual accounts show [Scott's] London-registered business -- LS Fashion Ltd -- had racked up debts of €5.5 million ($7.6 million) by the end of 2012 and was burning through cash at a rapid rate." CNN also notes that "she was due to hold a show at London Fashion Week on February 16 but canceled, the British Fashion Council said."
Funeral plans for Scott have not yet been announced.
