Cell Phones for Soldiers
Now through end of the year
FirstService Residential has partnered with Cell Phones for Soldiers to conduct a cell phone donation drive through the end of the year. Gently-used, late-model cell phones are preferred. Phones can be dropped off at 8290 Arville St.; 10155 W. Twain Ave., Suite 100; 7951 Deer Springs Way, Suite 170; 5135 Camino Al Norte, Suite 160; and 8915 S. Pecos Road, Suite 17-A.
Stuff the Truck
Epic Thrift is hosting a Stuff the Truck event for Children of Veterans Foundation in hopes of collecting more than 11,111 pounds of household goods and clothing items to support local veterans. Epic Thrift stores are located at 1435 W. Craig Road and 3145 E. Tropicana Avenue.
MGM Resorts "Salute the Troops"
More than 80 wounded warriors and their guests will be treated like high-rollers over Veterans Day weekend as MGM Resorts International, in conjunction with American Airlines and the USO, host "Salute to the Troops." The weekend's events will include the Terry Fator show, a visit to Mandalay Bay's Shark Reef, Excalibur's "Tournament of Kings," a visit to the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage, a softball game and a special celebratory concert by entertainer Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band.
8 a.m. Nov. 9
United Healthcare and Ride2Recovery is sponsoring the annual Honor Ride that will begin at 8 a.m. Nov. 9 at Mandalay Bay. The ride is a self-paced, non-competitive ride. Injured veterans and the general public can ride one of two distances -- 39 or 75 miles. The ride begins and ends at Mandalay Bay. Registration begins at 6:45 a.m. Cost is $74 (no cost to injured military). Groups receive discount.
National Veterans Day Run
10 a.m. Nov. 10
Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, Centennial Hills
The 3rd annual Las Vegas National Veterans Day Run will take place Nov. 10. There will be a timed 11K run, a timed 5K run and a 1-mile family walk. Proceeds benefit Folds of Honor Foundation. Veterans and active military receive discount on registration.
Hole-in-One Challenge and free golf
Nov. 10 and 11
Highland Falls Golf Club
There will be a hole-in-one challenge on Nov. 10 to benefit the troops. Entry fee is $20. Golfers will receive more than $100 in gift certificates, discounts, sports tickets and concert tickets for participating. And on Nov. 11, active military personnel can play for free with a paying golfer.
Veterans Day Parade
10 a.m. Nov. 11
The largest Veteran's Day parade west of the Mississippi will begin at 4th and Gass Streets in downtown Las Vegas and travel down 4th Street. The main viewing stage is located at 4th Street and Ogden Avenue.
Boulder City Veteran's Day ceremony
1:30 p.m. Nov. 11
Gov. Brian Sandoval will speak at a Veterans Day ceremony at Nevada State Veterans Home at the Disabled American Veterans Home at 100 Veterans Memorial Drive in Boulder City.
Attendees at the ceremony will include national and state officials, representatives of veterans groups and veteran supporters. More info
Veterans Day candlelight vigil and groundbreaking

Veterans Day Village, 1150 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman to speak along with U.S. Veterans of distinction and public invited to join on Veterans Day to celebrate the service of all United States military Veterans and a ground breaking ceremony for the Jacob Sportsman Memorial Park/ Plaza. Musical tribute to our heroes "Ameica The Beautiful" by Ray Charles, "American Soldier" by Toby Keith "Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood and the "Star Spangled Banner" by Carrie Underwood.

Project Salute 2013

Palace Station, West Sahara Avenue
The Young Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Nevada and Nevada Legal Services are partnering with the Access to Justice Commission and the Southern Nevada Senior Law Project to provide free legal assistance through Project Salute 2013. As part of a nationwide idea that began in the Detroit Mercy Law School, Project Salute is a one day clinic open to veterans of all ages. Veterans can meet with Nevada attorneys free of charge to obtain legal advice and information on a variety of legal topics.
Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Free admission to Lake Mead National Recreation Area Nov. 11. The National Park Service also provides active duty members of the military and their dependents with an annual national park pass, an $80 value, at no charge. Permanently disabled veterans can receive a free lifetime pass to all parks. The passes provides entrance to all national parks, national wildlife refuges, national forests and many other Federal lands - more than 2,000 in all. The passes can be acquired at any national park that charges an entrance fee. Information about all national park passes is available here.
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Fee-Free Weekend
Fees will be waived for visitors to Red Rock Nov. 9-11. Other fees, such as overnight camping and group day use, will remain in effect.
David's Briday is offering a 20 percent discount to all active service members and veterans on any briday gown purchased between Veterans Day and Nov. 15. More info
