Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- North Las Vegas police are making a plea to the mother of a missing three-year-old girl saying they now fear for her safety.
Investigators said they have been in consistent contact with Shelly Mitchell since last week when they began investigating the disappearance of her daughter Katies Battle.
That is until earlier Saturday when they said she cut off communication.
Mitchell is believed to have taken Katies during a Fourth of July BBQ at her father's home.
The three-year-old has been in foster care for the past year and a half, but was spending the holiday with her father on an approved visitation.
Police said the reason they believe Mitchell has not returned her daughter is because she is afraid she will be arrested.
They are also becoming increasingly concerned, because they have determined several picture Mitchell has posted of her daughter in recent days are actually months old.
Police said Mitchell is known to frequent the Henderson area, and are encouraging here to drop Katie's off at any hospital and simply notify the nurses on duty.
If anyone sees either Mitchell or Katies they are asked to call North Las Vegas Police or Nevada Child Seekers.
