Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Gross, unsanitary conditions, cockroaches and month-old tofu. You'll find it all in this week's Dirty Dining.
Contact 13 Chief Investigator Darcy Spears shows us why it's not a very happy New Year for three local restaurants.
Lin Buffet on Rock Springs Road near Lake Mead and U.S. 95 opened just two weeks ago.
But it got a less-than-grand reception from health inspectors, who shut down the prep kitchen with 48 demerits, including an imminent health hazard.
"On the report they say gross, unsanitary occurrence or conditions. Those are not nice words. You don't want those words affiliated with your restaurant," Darcy Spears said to Lin Qiang, the person in charge.
Qiang said his English isn't good and he can't speak to the specific violations.
He's just filling in for his wife, who owns the restaurant, while she's on maternity leave.
"Inside everything is clean now," he said.
Inspectors documented improper hand-washing after handling raw chicken.
And they said a food handler did not sanitize a cutting board.
Cooked shrimp and raw eggs had to be thrown out because they were in the temperature danger zone.
Bags of rice, corn starch and flour were left open.
And there was old, dried food debris on the meat slicer blade.
"Some have not too clean. So before, other chef was from Los Angeles. So we don't get training. So he don't know everything. So right now we training a lady," Qiang explained.
Inspectors also found improperly thawing shrimp and fish.
Lin won't let us go into the kitchen, but asks us to film the buffet after showing us new grade cards from their recent re-inspection.
The next imminent health hazard closures were for Cazino on West Spring Mountain.
The restaurant was shut down for having no hot water, but it also got 36 demerits. And we cannot over-state how dirty this place was.
There was no way for employees to wash their hands and floor sinks were full of black water.
Inspectors found trash, including a cigarette butt, on prep tables and dirty plates on shelves.
All surfaces were dirty with a thick build-up of grease and food debris.
Cazino has two bars, both of which were shut down for no hot water.
In one, inspectors also found slimy soda nozzles, walls with liquid stains and cockroaches on the center counter.
In the other, they found used gum in the prep sink and a moldy animal hide in the back bar.
The final closures were at Sushi Bay on Windmill in Henderson, where both the sushi bar and restaurant were shut down for no hot water.
Sushi Bay also got 39 demerits for the restaurant and 28 in the sushi bar.
Inspectors found food at unsafe temperatures, tofu that was nearly a month old, and dirty conditions.
They'll be subject to more frequent inspections to ensure continued compliance.
Sushi Bay was only closed for a day. They're back open with A grades for both the restaurant and sushi bar.
Lin Buffet's prep kitchen was also only closed for one day. They now have a zero-demerit A grade.
Cazino remains closed.
