Choosing a bank
Picking the wrong bank could cost you money. MyBankTracker.com says there are more than 7,000 institutions to choose from, so be selective.
The banking news site says you should focus on three main points. The first is location. Despite the growth in online banking, having a branch nearby is still handy.
The second factor is fees. Setting up the direct deposit of a regular check is one of the best ways to avoid the maintenance fee on a checking account.
And the third point is ATMs. One advantage of a larger bank is you can withdraw money from any of its ATMs.
