(KTNV) -- BMW has issued a recall for 156,137 cars and SUVs because a problem that could cause the engines to stall.
The recall affects some of BMWs most popular models, including the 3-series compact sport sedan.
The problems are some bolts that are used to hold the housing for the variable camshaft timing unit. In "rare" cases, those bolts could loosen or break, causing the engine to go into "safe mode."
Continued use could lead to the engine stalling, damage or inability to start.
BMW says owners should contact a dealer for service immediately.
