KJUL holds radio-thon to benefit Three Square Food Bank

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- For two full days every year, KJUL radio holds a radio-thon to benefit Three Square Food Bank. It's the annual Fight Holiday Hunger Food Drive.

It's an annual tradition at KJUL. The station known for oldies never gets tired of committing two full days to raising money for Three Square Food Bank. Host Scott Gentry says, "It's wonderful to see what Three Square can do with a dollar. Far more than you and I can do. We go to the store. We might get something for a dollar. They get three meals!"
The radio station opens its doors to our community for this event, inviting guest hosts to be on the air and volunteers to man the phone banks. We found professional poker player Matt Stout, answering phones. He posted his plan on Facebook, and a couple of other poker players joined him on the phones.
And on the air? While we were there, Chris Angelo was the guest host. He's with the Silver Sevens hotel/casino. He offered a $100 gift card to the backroom steakhouse for every ten dollar donation.
Chris says he did it because,"Three Square is Southern Nevada's only food bank. We want to support that cause and make sure no one goes hungry this holiday season."
The steakhouse deal worked. For the hour that deal was available, phones never stopped ringing.  And that means more hungry families will get food.
Right now when you donate to Three Square, corporate sponsors will match your donation dollar for dollar.  So right now your one dollar donation can provide six meals.
As of Wednesday evening, more than $51,000 had been raised which equals more than 153,000 meals.
