Family holds vigil to remember murdered 10-year-old Jade Morris

By Stacey Gualandi. CREATED Dec 21, 2013

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- It was a small gathering with a big message:  Jade Morris will always be remembered.

"Life won't be as great because she was a wonderful little girl," says Jade's grandfather Phil Tucker.

This vigil Saturday marked the first anniversary of Jade's disappearance and the last time her grandparents saw her alive.

"It's hard. You're used to that person being there but now this person is gone," says Brenda Morris, Jade's grandmother.

They searched and hoped but six days later, the ten year old was found dead not far from North 5 Street and Dorrell.

Jade's Uncle Paul says a snowstorm or blizzard couldn't keep them away.  "That's why we are here, and we'll be here every year because she's worth it ... bottomline."

Just days before Christmas last year, 50-year-old Brenda Stokes took Jade shopping.  She was a family friend and had dated Jade's father.   Hours later, police arrested her for slashing the face of a fellow blackjack dealer at Bellagio.   After Jade's body was found, she was also charged with murder, the family has yet to find closure.

Brenda Morris says Jade is "thinking about us, and I know she is here in person and she'd want us to move on with our lives but I hope she understands that we can't yet."

For now, they will continue to pray until justice is served.  And hope to be free someday like their precious Jade.
