UFC's Silva eager to fight again after broken leg
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Anderson Silva says he never seriously considered retirement after his gruesome leg injury, even though his family hoped he was finished with mixed martial arts.
The former UFC middleweight champion has agreed to fight Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on Jan. 31 in Las Vegas.
The 39-year-old Silva has a titanium rod in his left leg. He broke his shin when middleweight champion Chris Weidman blocked a kick during their rematch in December.
Silva (33-6) has been training for several weeks but says his leg isn't at full strength. He thinks he'll have plenty of time to get ready for Diaz (26-9), another popular MMA veteran coming off a long layoff.
