Shriners Open returns to TPC Summerlin this week

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The 2013 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is bring the FedEx Cup to Las Vegas this week.

This is the 31st year that the open has been held in Las Vegas and many of the top golfers in the world will participate in the competition and help support the mission of Shriners Hospital.

The open kicks off today at TPS Summerlin. 200 students from McWilliams Elementary will have the opportunity to visit the golf course for a unique educational experience.

The Charley Hoffman Foundation Las Vegas Pro Am will also take place on Monday.

Wednesday events include the Third Annual Kick Off Your Heels Luncheon and the MGM Resorts International Championship Pro Am.

The PGA Tour Professional Competition begins on Thursday and will continue through Oct. 20.

Some of the players at this year's competition include Zach Johnson, Webb Simpson, David Toms, Angel Cabrera, Greg Chalmers, Vijay Singh, former UNLV star Ryan Moore, Charley Hoffman, Derek Ernst, Alex Prugh, Kevin Penner and Nick Watney.

Action News spoke to Tournament Director Adam Sperling and TPC Summerlin General Manager Lee Smith on Monday morning about the event.
