Reno health center awarded $775K grant
RENO, Nev. (AP) -- A community health center in downtown Reno has been awarded a $775,000 federal grant to expand access to medical care.
Northern Nevada HOPES on W. 5th Street is a nonprofit health center. Founded in 1997, it offers medical care, chronic disease management, counseling, social services and pharmacy services.
Many of its patients are in underserved populations of society, including the homeless, sex workers and drug users.
The funding announced Thursday is made available under the federal health care reform law.
Officials say the money will extend health care access to more than 4,000 people.
