Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas police are investigating an auto-pedestrian crash involving a hit-and-run driver.

It happened just before 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at 2412 Olive Street, near Fremont Street and East Charleston Boulevard.

Police said a woman was struck by a vehicle and suffered serious injuries. She was transported to UMC Trauma.

Police told Action News the driver drove across a dirt lot and struck the victim while she was standing on the sidewalk.

"Hit the lady, she smacks the window, flies up in the air, bounces to the wall and falls down. So I am just sitting there, like oh my gosh, what am I going to do?" one witness explained.

Police said the driver initially stopped but then took off when witnesses came out to help the victim. The front license plate of her vehicle was found at the scene.

On Thursday afternoon, police said they located the car involved and were questioning the hit-and-run driver. She was cited for the crash, but not arrested because the victim's injuries were non-life threatening.

Witnesses told police she was driving erratically and speeding through the neighborhood when the crash happened.

The victim is believed to be a homeless woman who is known by residents in that area.
