Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- New information has been released on the deadly crime spree on the east side of the valley.
Police said Natasha Jackson and an accomplice, Cody Winters, carjacked a van and then stormed into a stranger's home, where a woman was stabbed and a man was shot and killed.
Undersheriff Jim Dixon said responding officers had no choice but to defend themselves.
Jackson is in jail and faces numerous charges including murder. Winters was shot and killed by police.
Undersheriff Dixon said the two officers involved, Ryan Rotta and William Moore, are on routine paid administrative leave.
Dixon said these types of situations are the reason more officers are needed on the streets, "We're short-handed. Officers are having a difficult time being proactive on the neighborhoods, they should be proactive in."
Jackson's bail has been set at $400,000.
The woman who was stabbed remains in critical condition.
