Police arrest suspect in hit-and-run motorcycle crash

CREATED Aug 23, 2014 - UPDATED: Aug 24, 2014

Police have arrested a man in connection with a deadly motorcycle crash on Interstate 15 and Sahara Avenue.

Information was received that 27-year-old Maurice Richards, of Hesperia, California, who was the rider of the motorcycle that caused a deadly crash, was attending an event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Troopers with the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the area and located Richards who was with the motorcycle he was said to have been riding that morning.

On Aug. 15 at approximately 1:20 a.m., several motorcycles were traveling north on I-15 approaching Sahara Avenue in the left travel lane.

The motorcycle that Richards was said to have been operating struck the right side of a 2008 black Honda sport bike which was being driven by 31-year-old Julius Gerald of Las Vegas.

That caused the black Honda to strike the center median wall ejecting Gerald into the travel lanes of I-15 northbound where a semi tractor trailer was traveling.

Richards was taken into custody and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on the charges of reckless driving resulting in death, hit-and-run and no valid driver license.

Richards also had outstanding warrants.
