North Las Vegas police looking for two men in attempted kidnapping

North Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- North Las Vegas police are looking for two men who may have attempted to kidnap a 12-year-old right before the Christmas break.

According to police, a student at Von Tobel Middle School reported she was approached by two men at about 8 a.m. Dec. 18.

She said the men, who were in a maroon-colored minivan, attempted to kidnap her. She was waling in the 2900 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North near Pecos Road at the time of the incident.

The student said she saw two Hispanic men inside the minivan and two teenage girls.

"What lends a little bit of credibility to her account of what happened is the convenience store surveillance video," said Officer Chrissie Coon, North Las Vegas police.

The victim worked with a sketch artist to produce a likeness of one of the suspects and a surveillance camera at a convenience store caught the minivan on camera.

"Now that school is back in session, we just wanted to bring it out in public so that the public was aware of the situation, and could just really be on a heightened state of alert," said Coon.

Two young men who walk the intersection regularly told Action News the area is no place for a pre-teen girl to be walking by herself.

"There's too many grown people around here for a little girl to be walking by herself anyway," said one of the men.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at (702) 633-9111 or Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
