Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Early Saturday morning the southbound lanes of U.S. 95 near Flamingo were shut down as the Nevada Highway Patrol investigated a deadly crash.
It happened around 7 a.m.
NHP said the 25-year-old driver of a Volkswagen was speeding when it rear ended a Honda Civic on the freeway.
The driver of the VW, 25-year-old Hexiquio Rios, was pronounced dead at the scene after striking the right median. Rios was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing his seat belt.
The 22-year-old female driver of the Honda was transported to Sunrise Hospital. She appeared to be under the influence and could face charges, after failing a sobriety test.
A tractor trailer that was passing through the crash had its gas tank ruptured by debris on the road, forcing the driver to pull over down from the crash.
Gasoline was spilled on the roadway. The trucking company had their own crew go out there and clean it up.
