Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- More details have been released into the death of a Las Vegas Boy Scout, who died from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

On Monday at 7:35 a.m., the San Diego Police Department received a radio call of an attempted suicide in the 1000 block of Fiesta Island Road.

Officers found 12-year-old William Shook inside of a tent who had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

Action News sources said he is the son of John Shook, an attorney for Shook and Stone law firm in Las Vegas. John Shook's Facebook page shows he's married to Julie Shook, who was deputy district attorney in Clark County.

A representative with the Clark County School district said the last school he attended in the district was Wasden Elementary, but that was in 2009.

Medical intervention was unsuccessful on Sunday and Shook was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A handgun was found near the boy.

The autopsy was completed Tuesday and the manner of death is pending by the Medical Examiner's Office.

The handgun found at the scene is unregistered. It is believed the gun's origin will be traced back to Las Vegas and was brought to San Diego by Shook.

Investigators continue to conduct the follow-up investigation in this case.
