Mandatory TB testing starts at Coronado High School

By Denise Wong. CREATED Nov 19, 2013

Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- Health officials are starting to test hundreds of students and staff at Coronado High School in Henderson for tuberculosis.

That's after it was discovered that an individual there had tested positive for the contagious airborne disease.

Not everyone will be tested. Just 325 people who came in close contact with the individual. Those who will be tested have already been notified.

Students had to get their parents' permission, even though the Southern Nevada Health District said testing is mandatory for everyone they have identified as at-risk.

Students and parents were first notified about the tuberculosis case and potential risk last week when the school sent out emails and letters.

The TB testing will take place at the high school during school hours. There is no charge for the tests.

Testing started Tuesday and runs through Thursday.
