Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- Clark County and Henderson Fire Investigators arrested Michael Brandon Boyd, Jr. on Wednesday in connection with a June 9 bonfire.

The bonfire took place in a desert area south of Henderson and resulted in injuries to seven teenagers.

Based on numerous interviews with witnesses following the late-night incident and evidence collected at the scene, investigators believe 19-year-old Boyd threw a 55 gallon drum on top of the fire.

Heat from the fire caused the drum and its contents to explode resulting in the spread of the bonfire and injuries to bystanders.

Following his arrest, Boyd was booked into the Henderson Detention Center and faces numerous charges including one count of third degree arson and seven counts of mayhem.

Boyd's bail has been set at $37,000.

Fire officials remind the public that outdoor, unpermitted bonfires are illegal and pose serious dangers and safety risks.

Boyd supporters have started a campaign on social media, using the hashtag #basicstrong and calling this week 'Basic Strong Week.'

They're also teaming up with Sunset Station for a benefit concert on Oct. 1.
